The names Harm and Piet are very important names in my life. To begin with, Piet, was my fathers name. Though officially Pieter, every body, including my mother, called him Piet and consequently I've heard that name thousands of times during my lifetime. My younger brother, who died in a tragic car accident two and a half years ago, was given the name Hendrik Pieter but everybody called him Pieter!
As for the name Harm, my oldest sister married Harm Post 40 years ago. So there you go - Harm and Piet. Last year I visited the Harm and the crew told me that there was a sister ship with the name Piet. And yes, last week the Piet arrived in Vancouver!
The ships are named after the two sons of the ( German ) owner. And so I learned that there are not only Dutch people with the names Harm and Piet, but German people as well.
The Piet left this afternoon and is on its way to South - Korea.
