Christmas at Sea

 Over the years, tens of thousands of Christmas gifts have been distributed to crew members aboard the ships that come into our ports.

For most of us Christmas is a time of joy and gladness as we gather together with family and friends to celebrate the birth of Christ. However, for the crews aboard the many cargo ships, Christmas time is often one of loneliness and melancholy as family and friends are far away.

With the Christmas at Sea project, the Ministry to Seafarers hopes to show the love of God in a small, but tangible way to these sailors, pointing to the true gift of Christmas, Jesus Christ, in whose name these gifts are presented. Of course, it is only with your faithful support that this project is possible for the Christmas season. So, why not become a partner in the Ministry to Seafarers’ Christmas at Sea. Please look at the following suggestions;

As in previous years, you can put together a gift package yourself or organize gift wrapping with members of your church. (A great ministry opportunity for youth groups!)

Include a Christmas card greeting inside the gift box, and on the outside, in the upper right hand corner code the gift as to it’s value; $10,00-$15,00 code “A”, $15,00-$20,00, code “B”. In this way we can try to give the more expensive gifts to the more poorly paid crews, because, yes, there is quite a disparity in wages paid to crews by the various shipping companies.

Suggestions to include in your gift packet: (CANADA) souvenirs, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, gloves, toques, chocolate. (please, no more writing paper or puzzles!).

A New Convenient Way To Send A Gift
If shopping and wrapping a gift is inconvenient for you, you can also send us your money gift to be used to purchase gift items for distribution. We have recruited a group of volunteers who will do the shopping and wrapping for you. It can save you time, makes shipping a breeze, and you can still be a very meaningful part of the project.
