Easter Sunday is about the empty grave. The Lord Jesus risen from the grave - from death to life - ' so that any one who believes in the Son has eternal life. I call that Good News!
During the Sunday morning church service in Ladner we had great singing, a great sermon about the resurrection and we celebrated the Lord's Supper. Strange isn't it; On resurrection day ( life eternal ) we remember Jesus' death - do this in remembrance of me.
I am a child of the resurrection but I am saved through the eternal blood of the covenant - Jesus' blood - once and for all shed on the cross of Calvary.
In the afternoon I visited the MV Cape Progress. The ship was here last July and there were still three crew members on board since that time, including the cook. I had asked the captain on Friday if I could lead an Easter Sunday service on board the ship. We agreed on four o'clock in the afternoon.
It took a while but within 20 minutes 14 crew members showed up for the service. Together we read a litany of praise and prayer. I gave a short devotion based on the resurrection story in the gospel of John.
The chief engineer expressed fear and concern about the situation in the North/South Korea area towards they would be heading that same night.
I assured them, based on the text, that world dictators, kings, rulers or any other person can do a lot of damage but will always fail and after they die will remain in the grave!. In fact the North Korean leader, who is worshiped as a ' god ' in that country, just like his father and grand father, is only a human who one day will die. Jesus died and rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, who is the ' ruler of the kings of the earth ' , one day will come again to judge the living and the dead. Now that's comfort in times of fear and worry.
To all of you a blessed Easter!
